House construction checklist for overseas Pakistanis

Building in Lahore while living in the UK, UAE, Canada, USA or Australia is common, and most problems come from unclear quotes and payments made without proof of work. This checklist is what we follow with our own overseas clients.

10-minute checklist

1. Check the plot papers, society NOC status and approved map before paying anyone.
2. Get an itemised quote (grey and finishing separately) with brand names for steel, cement and fittings.
3. Pay in stages tied to finished work (foundation, slab, brickwork, finishing), never a large advance.
4. Ask for weekly photos and a live WhatsApp video at every stage, especially before slabs are poured.
5. Keep a shared spreadsheet of payments and receipts.
6. Plan who looks after the house after handover: tenants, bills and repairs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I build a house in Pakistan without travelling?

Yes. With stage-based payments, weekly photo and video reports and live video visits you can manage the build remotely; many owners visit only once or twice.

How should I send payments?

Through normal banking channels to a business account, against an invoice for a completed stage, and keep every receipt.
